Teen Suicide Awareness
“ The Josh Platzer Society’s goal is to provide resources in education and awareness on the topic of teen suicide to counselors, students, teachers and families. By promoting dialogue on the subject, it is our aim to reduce the stigma associated with suicide; in particular so that teens will feel easier about sharing their problems with a responsible adult. ”
The Vancouver Marathon was a great success!
Sharee Proudfoot, a Vancouver secondary school teacher, is choosing to run for the Josh Platzer Society for Teen Suicide Prevention & Awareness after the loss of her nephew to suicide four years ago. "It is more than apparent to me how important it is to heighten awareness in our communities around this issue," says Proudfoot. "I am committed to helping in any way I can to prevent the youth in our society from feeling alone and offering ways in which they can reach out to get help for their feelings of desperation". Supporting the Society and their goals to reach out to teenagers in order to prevent suicide is close to Proudfoot's heart and she is running to support this cause.
