WHAT WE DO
**The Josh Platzer Society is now accepting bookings for the 2014/2015 school year. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on booking your workshop today.
The Josh Platzer Society has been running suicide prevention and awareness workshops for local youth since our society’s creation in 2001. We most commonly run our workshops at high schools in the Vancouver area, but also speak at a variety of community events throughout the Lower Mainland and British Columbia.
Our workshops involve a combination of speaking, multimedia (videos), and exercises. Our typical workshop is approximately one hour in length. The goal is to give the audience an understanding of the facts, causes, and very importantly, the warning signs of suicide and what to do when you detect them. The message of our workshops is that awareness and openness about suicide can prevent a tragedy. These workshops have been given at high schools, colleges, and to counsellor and parent groups. Our workshops can be scaled for groups of 5 to 500!
In addition to workshops, we also provide purely speaking engagements.
Over the years we have been invited to speak at many locations. Please see THIS PAGE for more information.
Please reach out and contact us for more information, or if you are are interested in booking a workshop or speaking engagement! We look forward to speaking with you!
POSTER OUTREACH CAMPAIGN
The Josh Platzer Society has a significant impact every year with our massive outreach poster campaign seen across British Columbia. We are able to have this impact as a direct result of our amazing supporters!
Our yearly fundraising efforts allow us to reach out to youths across British Columbia. The Josh Platzer Society reaches out from September onwards across BC public transit via our poster outreach campaign.
Our poster, designed by renowned advertising agency Wasserman + Partners, increases awareness of the difficult subject of teenage suicide and depression, and extends information on local suicide prevention and counselling resources.
Our posters are visible on the side’s of BC Transit buses, inside buses and skytrains, and are displayed at many bus stop locations throughout British Columbia. This allows use to reach a HUGE amount of those in need every year, giving them the information and contacts they need to find resources, and get assistance.
Please see THIS PAGE for more information.
The Josh Platzer Society participates in a variety of fund and awareness events across British Columbia each year. The goal of our participation is to 1) raise funds for our annual poster campaign and 2) to spread awareness and information to the local community.
These events include our annual Silent Auction Fundraiser, hosted in November by the Josh Platzer Society, and the BMO Vancouver Marathon Run4Hope, where the Josh Platzer Society runs, fund-raises, and volunteers. 2015 will mark our third consecutive year as an Run4Hope official charity – every year since the Run4Hope iniaitive was introduced in 2012.
